NRA Instructor Recruiter of the Year: Doug Williams

Congratulations to Doug Williams from Peoria, IL for being named 2019 Instructor Recruiter of the Year! In 2019, Doug’s hard work and dedication to the NRA stood out as he was able to recruit 642 members and $28,345 in corresponding membership dues.

Doug has recruited 1,367 members since enrolling in the NRA Recruiting Program in 2014, and has been a top 10 Instructor Recruiter the last 3 years!  He recruited the 3^rd most members and collected the 2^nd most corresponding membership dues in the Instructor Recruiter category. Doug and his team stepped up to cover 3 Bass Pro locations during our big NRA weekend.  He was very deliberate in training his recruiting staff and they did well at each of the stores.

In addition to experiencing success at events, Doug also signs up members consistently during his classes. He truly believes in the NRA’s mission and dedicates time in every class to explain the importance of joining the NRA. In our experience, Doug is very positive and fantastic to work with. He helps to find new Recruiters and takes the time to discuss new recruiting strategies to make the biggest impact for the NRA.

In a presentation Doug prepared to help explain recruiting to other instructors he wrote, “The students are going to tell you whether they are an NRA member or not. So, during class introduction, we thank the ones that say they are members and encourage non-members to consider joining the NRA. When we go to take a break during class, I will mention that I have time if anyone is interested in joining the NRA we can do it right now. It only takes a minute. You need to get involved with all the local ranges, trap clubs, shotgun leagues, etc. Target this market as a recruiter and it may also benefit you on the Instructor side too. Be as professional as you can as a recruiter in the environment of local events. Make sure you have a neat clean table set up with plenty of magazines to show potential new members.”
