I joined the Show Recruiting Team in September of 2014 with high expectations of what we could accomplish as one strong, cohesive, working unit. Fast forward 2.5 years and I could not be prouder of what we have accomplished. During our time together we have reached many milestones which should make us all proud to be strengthening our great organization. Specifically, we have recruited or renewed over 56,000 members. What…An…Accomplishment! I would like to congratulate and thank all of the Northeast Recruiting team for your commitment to the NRA and your continued excellence in the field. It truly could not have been done without each and every one of you and your hard work and dedication to the NRA mission. I would like to recognize a group of individuals who have exemplified the meaning of commitment since I joined the team.

  • Over 15,000 Members - Harry Jacobs
  • Over 4,000 Members - Chuck Lehnert
  • Over 3,000 Members - Andy Madura
  • Over 2,000 Members - Allen Shireman, Gary Windt, Wayne Blank, James Lyon Jr. and Greg Sullivan
  • Over 1,000 Members-Jeffrey Steele, Dale Emerick, David Maybach and Paul Mattson
  • 100- 1,000 Members-Sean Byrne, David Simmons, Allen Schreur, George Rogero, Jon Smetana, Nick Merlino and Pine Tree Rifle Club, Chad Burkett, Lawrence Himburg, Ian Hill, Patricia Seifert, Rochester Rod & Gun Club (Emory King) and Penobscot County Conservation (Charles Rumsey)

During my time in the field, I have also experienced the fluctuation in our membership drives. I would like to remind you all that it will take our best team efforts to keep NRA membership on the rise in 2017. There is no doubt it will be tough, but I am confident that there is no better team out there than the NRA Recruiting Team. I know you all will take this challenge head on and continue to grow our powerful organization.

I look forward to watching the Northeast Region continue to grow as I work alongside our show recruiters as the new Industry Representative. As always, I am happy to assist you as best as I can. Keep up the hard work and remember to be prepared, be heard, and be seen.

The Southeast is off to a great start in 2017. We had an incredibly successful recruiting weekend with Cabela's in which we gained over 3,700 memberships! Thank you to all the Recruiters for your hard work during that weekend!

As you submit membership applications in, please remember the following:

  • Double check to make sure your check for your cash applications is written out correctly
  • All credit card applications are double checked to ensure the correct credit card number and expiration date are written
  • Include a show report with your applications. This helps me know what recruiters are attending specific shows and events
  • ALL membership applications must be turned in within 10 days of the show or event

Remembering these simple tips will minimize delays in processing and ensure that our members are receiving their membership packet within the 4 to 6 week time frame.

Each year we challenge our Recruiters to "Strive for 25" members. That's only 1 application book worth of memberships. If you didn't reach this goal last year, I encourage you to set your sights on getting those 25. If you know how many memberships you did last year, I encourage you to beat that by 15%! Even though we won this election, we must continue the fight. This is the time to gain momentum, to go on the offense, and help protect our rights at the state level for future generations.

Please let me know if you need help finding events and shows in your area to attend. I want to help everyone reach their goal this year and if we all work together we can get there!

The Central Region has posted a 15% gain over the previous year! However, don't let the post-election cycle fool you- we must continue to be proactive as we head further into 2017. As Wayne LaPierre has stated, "Winning the battle isn't the same as winning the war".

Here are a few tips to help you remain proactive as to not let our early gains slip away throughout the year:

Sign up for ILA updates- Keep up to date on what ILA is doing on the state and federal level. You can sign up at and follow the weekly ILA grassroots information.

Urge current members to sign up 1 more person- Imagine if every NRA member signed up 1 friend or family member each? We would double NRA membership and have an unstoppable voting bloc!

Review membership applications to ensure all the information is filled out correctly- I have several applications that have invalid credit card information, missing address information and missing numbers from the recruiter information. These are mistakes that not only hold up recruiter commissions, but more importantly, they hold up the member processing. Remember, member satisfaction leads to member retention and delays in processing lowers member satisfaction.

As always, thanks again for all of your continued dedication and hard work. We have accomplished so much in the last couple of months and it has been a pleasure working with all of you. My winter travel season is now coming to a close, and I look forward to catching up with all of you!

We are only a few months into 2017 and we are off to a good start. As most of you have probably noticed, some members or potential new members are showing complacency and don't see the need to sign up or renew their membership because of the election. They may feel there is no immediate threat to their rights with the current President and Congress. If you come across someone like this, let them know their membership is as important as ever! Unfortunately, we have had to play defense for the last 8 years; now we can go on the offense. Tell them about the incredibly important bills we are currently trying to get passed; Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act and the Hearing Protection Act These are just a few things we are trying to accomplish, but we need membership support to make it happen.

A great way to earn a few extra dollars in commission is selling a 5 year membership; this is also the best value for the member as they are only paying $20 per year for their membership. If someone is signing up for a 3 year membership, upselling them to a 5 year membership should be fairly easy. Since they are already willing to pay $85 for a 3 year membership, let them know, for only an additional $15, they get 2 more years of membership.

To help increase membership totals, it is important to find new events in your local area. You can recruit at other local events such as military shows, antique shows, and flea markets or see if your local gun store or outdoor store will let you recruit there for a weekend. You can also start to plan ahead for the summer months and see if there are fairs, air shows, concerts or festivals you can attend.

Keep up the great work in 2017 and let me know if the is anything I can do to assist.
